As most of you already know the formalwear swim this past Sunday was fantastic! One thing that I didn’t mention, however, is that after the event at Barton Springs Pool I went to my neighborhood pool. I ditched my business suit for a blue Speedo and Aqua Sphere Kayenne goggles and swam a few breathless strokes before collapsing in a wet heap.
Okay, maybe it wasn’t that bad but it’s obvious to any observer that I have only been doing this for a week. In my early teens I used to race so I’m not concerned that I’ll drown, but my technique is shoddy, my stroke efficiency sucks and I have the swim endurance of a giraffe.
I tend to jump around between sports, exploring each one pretty seriously at an amateur level. My most recent dive was into powerlifting which culminated in a March 2013 competition and I am now test-driving swimming as its successor.
I expect swimming to go well. The closest municipal pool (free!) is about five minutes from my house and I have never had to wait for a lane. Since I began swimming one week ago I have started to implement the Total Immersion method and am beginning to see results. The DVD just arrived at my library and I am excited to watch it.
I’ll end with some more footage from the formalwear swim. One of the things that I am most proud of regarding that event is arranging for lots of photography. One photographer (Kadi Russell) brought a waterproof camera and shot this great video. Enjoy!
