How is it possible that I – having already lived through a number of Simplifying Saturdays – still own a useless mini spotlight? Some months ago I purchased an 8″ motorized disco ball. It hangs from my bedroom ceiling and has brought me a surprising amount of happiness. It also didn’t cost very much.
Owing to the magic of our modern world this cheap disco ball came with a mini spotlight. While the ball itself is pretty rad I knew before purchasing it that the included light would be piece of crap. It has a way-too-dim halogen bulb that provides a flood instead of a spot and the unit gets ridiculously hot. Not good.
So what has the light been doing on my bedroom floor for the past few months? Why is it only now that I’m putting it out on the sidewalk for someone else to have and get annoyed with?
This really highlights for me how much simplicity is a practice and not just a mindset. There is no finality to my minimalism in that unwanted things somehow manage to show up and stay in my house. It’s time to get serious. Simplifying Saturdays is starting on Thursday this week!
