The minute I walked in the door I was nearly struck in the head by a club. One world record holder was in a nook practicing 7-ball bounce juggling and another was in the middle of the room working on a fast 8-ball pattern. Across the floor was was a guy juggling five casino dice(!) while balancing a club on his nose and my eyes were glued to a 15 year old kid juggling five balls behind his back. I was among the nerdiest of juggling nerds and things were good.
At the Texas Juggling Society I was surrounded by more 5, 6, 7, 8, and even 9 object jugglers than I had ever before seen. My mentor was receiving instruction and I was meeting people and getting tips. The environment was perfect for inspiration and learning.
True nirvana will need to wait another year. Juggling club happens weekly in Austin, but each spring Austin hosts a much larger event called Jugglefest. World Juggling Day is in June 2014, and the 67th Annual International Juggling Festival will probably take place in July. After the IJF festival I will be able to die a happy man, having achieved enlightenment. Maybe.
