Last week I handed in the keys to my downtown Austin apartment and finished moving into an RV. I was at ~400′ elevation, enjoyed my last shower with unlimited water and said goodbye to outlets with endless 120v electricity.
I am now writing at 7,500′ in Santa Fe National Forest. A frigid stream runs behind my campsite and yesterday Cara and I hiked 8 miles to Hermit Peak (10,200′), catching what might have been our last glimpse of Texas for a long time.
The day before last I finished (in the forest) the electrical setup for our house on wheels. Electricity isn’t as unlimited as it was on-grid, but when the sun is shining we get plenty of juice.
As for showers, we have one in the RV but water is scarce. I’m looking forward to today’s solution, which involves natural hot springs on our drive toward Colorado.
I’m elated to be back on the road. RV life feels great and the backyard that we have had the last few days is undeniably sweet. Stay tuned.
